What Are the Things to Consider During New Toilet Installation?

Install Your Toilets Properly

The toilet is an essential part of our daily lives, and it’s critical that when the time comes to replace it, you do everything possible to avoid future problems. Here are some things to consider and keep in mind during toilet installation in your home. Many people believe that upgrading a toilet involves just removing the old and installing the new – but this is not the case. When installing a toilet in your home, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Ensure proper fit

Distances from the toilet to the wall, vanity, shower, and other fixtures are all specified by plumbing codes. Bathrooms should have at least a foot of clearance on all sides and in front of the toilet, and ideally more to accommodate the comfort of guests and potential new residents.

Replace the water supply line

This is the pipe that connects the toilet’s tank to the wall. This supply line has a lifespan of 6 to 8 years and should be replaced during installation. If you intend to keep the toilet for an extended period of time, we recommend a soft copper supply line, which is more durable than standard stainless steel.

Don’t overlook angle stops

These stop the flow of water to the toilet in the event of a leak. You should replace this at the time of installation to avoid problems in the future. Angle stops come in two varieties: quarter-turn and multi-turn. Having a halt at a 45-degree angle is better than anything less than that.

Seal the escutcheon correctly

The escutcheon (also known as the chrome plate on the wall by the angle stop) must be carefully caulked. If this step is skipped or not performed properly, water damage to the wall may result if the toilet leaks.

Check your toilet flange

The flange at the base of the toilet is what keeps the fixture in place. The diameter of the wax ring required will depend on its height and level. Two materials, wax, and plastic are available for usage as wedding rings. For a more secure and long-lasting seal, we recommend wax. Plastic has the potential to dry rot.
